Its purpose was to monitor all Chinese people residing in the U.S. and deport them back to China if they failed to provide proof of residency.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>\u26a0\ufe0f&nbsp;Indexing Notes<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although census data can be insightful, it\u2019s important to be aware of its susceptibility to racial bias. Historically, it was not uncommon for census enumerators to incorrectly profile Chinese individuals, or even exclude mixed-race individuals. To the best of our ability, we have extracted the census data of all individuals racially recorded as Chinese.
